چکیده

objectives: this current research was conducted in order to analyze the molecular characterization of isolated cryptosporidium spp. in the southwest of iran. materials and methods: in this survey, 390 fecal samples were collected from immunocompromised individuals and children under five-years-of-age. parasitic infection was evaluated using wet mount preparation, formalin ether, a modified acid fast staining method and microscopic examination. finally, a pcr-rflp assay was performed on the extracted dna collected from fecal samples that were positive for cryptosporidium by the acid fast method. background: cryptosporidium is known to be one of the most important causes of diarrhea in children and immunocompromised patients. genotype characterization of cryptosporidium species in each region would help in the treatment of this disease, as well as to locate the source of infection and to prevent the disease. results: among the 390 fecal samples, 16 cases (4.1%) were infected with cryptosporidium. molecular and genotype characterization found the following protozoan species; 11 cryptosporidium parvum (68.8%), 4 c. hominis (25%), and one case of c. meleagridis (6.2%). conclusions: the present study emphasized the public health importance of cryptosporidium spp. in the study area. in addition, it seems that zoonotic species are the most important causes of infection in the region. as far as we are aware this the first report of a c. meleagridis infection in iran.

Molecular Characterization of Cryptosporidium spp. in Children from Mexico

Cryptosporidiosis is a parasitic disease caused by Cryptosporidium spp. In immunocompetent individuals, it usually causes an acute and self-limited diarrhea; in infants, infection with Cryptosporidium spp. can cause malnutrition and growth retardation, and declined cognitive ability. In this study, we described for the first time the distribution of C. parvum and C. hominis subtypes in 12 child...

Molecular Characterization of Cryptosporidium spp. among Children in Rural Ghana

BACKGROUND The relevance of Cryptosporidium infections for the burden of childhood diarrhoea in endemic settings has been shown in recent years. This study describes Cryptosporidium subtypes among symptomatic and asymptomatic children in rural Ghana to analyse subtype-specific demographic, geographical, seasonal and clinical differences in order to inform appropriate control measures in endemic...

PFGE genotyping and molecular characterization of Campylobacter spp. isolated from chicken meat

A total of 70 samples were collected from chicken meat obtained from 10 markets in Tehran, Iran from which 39 Campylobacter coli were isolated. Among 10 antibiotics used, maximum resistance was seen to trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole (SXT) (97.36%), nalidixic acid (94.8%), ciprofloxacin (87.7%), streptomycin (89.72%), and tetracycline (97.4%). No resistance was to gentamycin was observed. None o...

Molecular characterization of Cryptosporidium spp. from HIV infected patients from an urban area of Brazil.

Cryptosporidium spp. are important cause of enteric disease in humans, but may also infect animals. This study describes the relative frequency of several Cryptosporidium species found in human specimens from HIV infected patients in the São Paulo municipality obtained from January to July 2007. Sequence analysis of the products of nested-PCR based on small subunit rRNA and Cryptosporidium oocy...

Molecular and phenotypic characterization of Pseudomonas spp. isolated from milk.

Putative Pseudomonas spp. isolated predominantly from raw and processed milk were characterized by automated ribotyping and by biochemical reactions. Isolates were biochemically profiled using the Biolog system and API 20 NE and by determining the production of proteases, lipases, and lecithinases for each isolate. Isolates grouped into five coherent clusters, predominated by the species P. put...
